Marsh has launched a Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Renewable Power and Cleantech Practice to help clients in the region that are engaged in the development and operation of low carbon, sustainable power generation.
The new practice aims to address the risks associated with the growing demand for cleaner and sustainable power generation that is so in demand in the EMEA region.
Substantial investment in renewable power across EMEA is being fuelled by consumer demand for cleaner sources of power generation and increasingly stringent government targets, amid growing concerns about climate change and sustainability.
To assist clients in managing the risk and insurance issues associated with renewable power and low carbon technologies, Marsh’s new practice brings together knowledge across the company’s Construction, Power and Energy teams in EMEA.
Marsh veteran Mark Popplewell will lead the Practice. Renewable Power & Cleantech leader, Steven Munday, will support him in his role from London.
Marsh said that Mr Munday will use his knowledge of the low carbon power sector to access and deploy Marsh’s resources where required by clients across the EMEA region.
“National governments are increasingly turning to renewable, sustainable and low carbon sources for their power generation; 2010 was the third consecutive year in which more renewable power capacity was installed in European Union countries than from conventional sources such as coal, gas and nuclear,” said Mr Popplewell.
“By harnessing our colleagues’ expertise across the EMEA region, Marsh is in a prime position to deliver the insurance and risk management services our clients require to capitalise on the opportunities the flourishing renewable/cleantech power sector presents,” he concluded.
Chubb launches specialist PI cover for non-traditional professional service providers
Chubb has launched a specialist professional indemnity (PI) product in the UK and Ireland, designed to help protect a more diverse range of professional service providers against the PI risks they face in today’s often litigious business environment.
The policy is aimed at a wide range of professionals from management consultants and HR experts to payroll processors and polygraph operators.
Its product provides civil liability coverage on a worldwide basis including the US. Chubb said it offers an alternative option to standard ‘miscellaneous’ PI policies.
Tim Jones, UK & Ireland Professional Indemnity Manager at Chubb Insurance Company of Europe SE, commented: “Traditional’ professions such as solicitors, accountants, surveyors and architects have historically had the broadest PI coverage and policies suited to their needs. However, when we examined our book of PI business we realised that there is a growing number of professional service providers in a variety of industry sectors who need a PI policy that is in tune with their particular business risks.”
He said that previously the market tended to take a generic approach to all requests for PI cover from ‘non-traditional’ professions and offered a basic ‘miscellaneous’ PI policy.
“Instead our specialist approach, experience and newly designed policy allows us to adapt to suit a wide range of professional service providers and their specific risks, which we believe offers a much better solution in terms of both underwriting and client coverage,” he explained.
Chub said that the policy highlights include non-voidance for innocent non-disclosure, the inclusion of mitigation costs to rectify a potential claim before it escalates, defence costs paid as and when occurred and the ability to cover a wide group of additional organisations.
The insurer also said that business acquisition and expansion can be easily accommodated, that there are no insolvency or pollution exclusions and cover for claims arising from employee dishonesty.
