In his opening speech as president Mr Luzzi said that communication with Ferma’s growing membership and regulatory bodies, such as the European Commission, is of utmost importance to him and the federation.

“Ferma should have a complete level of communication and transparency," he said. “Ferma also needs to continue its communication with the European Commission and other European bodies, and with the companies whose risk managers we represent."

Mr Luzzi highlighted Ferma's commitment to social networking and called for active participation from member associations. "We want to have real time communication, and real time is real."

He was anxious to stress that Ferma would not cut itself off from the insurance and broking community from which it grew. "We will not forget our origins. We need to evolve and innovate while remaining in contact with insurers, reinsurers and brokers who give us continuing support," he told delegates.

The new president also stressed the diversity of Ferma’s members and said the association will represent all of their interests and be an ‘instrument to elevate their status’.

Mr Luzzi took over from former president Peter den Dekker and paid tribute to the Dutchman’s two years in charge.

He said his predecessor had done ‘a great job’ and that Ferma was in good health. He also paid tribute to previous Ferma presidents and said he hoped he could perform as well.
